Greece - Train for Europe – The European Express

Since August 2011, the Experimental Junior High School of the University of Macedonia has been a partner in the Comenius Project titled TRAIN FOR EUROPE – THE EUROPEAN EXPRESS along with 7 more European schools:
    • 1. the BG Zehnergasse in Wiener Neustadt, Austria
    • 2. the Základní škola UNESCO, Uherské Hradiště, Czech Republic
    • 3. the Gewerbliche Schulen des Lahn – Dill – Kreis, Dillenburg, Germany
    • 4. the Zipernowsky Károly Általános Iskola in Budapest, Hungary
    • 5. the Liceo Classico di stato C. Rinaldini in Ancona, Italy
    • 6. the Szkoła Podstawowa nr 1 w Będzinie , Poland
    • 7. the CEIP San Juan Bautista in Madrid, Spain
The first meeting took place at the Experimental Junior High School UoM in Neapoli, Thessaloniki from 7th – 11th November. The agenda of the meeting was about Reschedulling and Reorganising since not all 11 countries which had originally applied were approved. During the meeting each participating country presented their school, opinions were exchanged regarding the activities, the visiting dates were reschedulled and responsibilities were allotted amongst the partner-countries.
Moreover, during the meeting a protocol visit was paid to the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality Neapoleos-Sykeon, Ms Tsoukala, who in charge of Educational Affairs, in the premises of the old Town Hall in Neapoli. During this visit the president of all Parents’ Associations of the schools in Neapoli was also present and talked with the european partners about educational matters. Last, the partners were offered by Ms Tsoukala a gift to take with them to their schools in memory of the meeting.
During their visit, the partners had the chance to take a ride on the Blue Bus and enjoy the cultural route through the town followed by a guided walk in the historic centre of the town. Moreover, a day trip was organised to the Vergina Museum followed by a short walk along the ‘Enippea’ path in Litochoro. Last, the partners had the chance to enjoy the greek hospitality and taste traditional greek dishes and delights/sweets.
We wish to address our special thanks to the presidency of our school’s Parents’ Association for the ample help they offered for the organisation of the meeting.
The next meeting within the Comenius project will take place in Budapest, Hungary from the 27th Feb – 2nd Mar. The Agenda will include students’ presentations on the topics ‘Buildings’ & ‘History’.
